A shirt design for our roller derby “A” team, the folks who travel and play “A” teams from other leagues. I made at least 14 versions of this – and I think this is the best. I did it in a hurry. ;)
On the Subject of Skate & Create
I played hooky from school to skateboard, and went on to play roller derby as James Bondage, 007, The Spy Who Shoved You™.
WHEELSTOCK 2012
My beloved roller derby league sponsored an event last weekend called Wheelstock. Skaters from the east coast gathered at the Shipley Agricultural Center for two sweaty days of skating, clinics and games. We spent the night in tents and even had a late skate under the disco ball. Here’s my scrapbook (some pics courtesy of Gary Bell, Jr./Dreams In Focus Photography).
JUNE 9th GAME AGAINST PENN JERSEY
I really am working on art – in fact, I have some great news on that front. But I still have a couple of derby posts just ahead, including this flier I just made for the June 9th game.
Halloween in Spring
Who doesn’t love Halloween? We are having a Halloween in Spring party on Saturday June 2nd at 7PM! You are invited! Feel free to dress up, watch us scrimmage (Pirates Vs. Zombies) and then skate with the men and women of Chesapeake Roller Derby! It’s a fundraiser for the rest of our season and to help Sportsman’s Hall in Upperco.
Land Hos vs. Rolling Plunder
Last night was a blur. With the score tied, we went into Sudden Death (an extra period where the first point wins the game). My Land Hos had someone in the penalty box so we were down a player. I forget who scored the final pass. The game was a nail biter, with the lead being traded every other jam.
I had several trips to the penalty box myself and I made some pretty good mistakes. Rolling Plunder gave me the “MVP” award, which cheered me up after being frustrated with the refs.
One mistake: I bought Adidas soccer socks to show my team colors – and I didn’t figure out until AFTER the game that my knee gaskets couldn’t grip the nylon. After one fall, my knee pad was down around my ankle. I have a couple of scrapes and burns, but nothing serious.
This was a GREAT game. I’m so glad I got to skate in it.

SKATELAND WITH THE CUB SCOUTS
We did a demo tonight at Skateland in Putty Hill for two packs of cub scouts.
Awesome.
