You must be joking

We went to see Joker: Folie À Deux. Now, I’m going to talk about this, so if you haven’t seen and don’t want SPOILERS, avoid the end of this post.

Meanwhile, here are photos from a very productive weekend. I mowed the yard for hopefully the last time in 2024. I made a short film this Friday’s performance. We watched Rosemary’s Baby (and last week we watched the Maltese Falcon and Double Indemnity).

I played some music with Lily. And I assembled a new 3D printer.

My wife and I both loved JOKER, and were excited for the sequel. I bought us IMAX tickets for our weekend date. The trailers looked promising… even for a musical. Sadly, the film is a broken promise. I love Arthur Fleck, and feel betrayed by having to sit through this sludge to find out that he comes to a grisly, unsatisfying ending. Using musicals and song as a way to show his delusional/fantasy life was novel, but…did we even need to see this? I don’t understand who the audience for this movie is supposed to be.

This entire film could have been elegantly worked into the end of the first one, which would have made it even more exceptional. I do not find this movie necessary. Having just watched the Noir classics mentioned at the top of this post, I did connect this movie to those, and that is the best thing I can say about it.

At least we know how the Joker got those scars.
