Baltimore Film Summit presented by the Filmmaker’s Playground

Terms of Service screened at this festival this weekend (and ArtScape last weekend, too!). One of the things I enjoy about festivals is how the immersion into interesting and great films gets infused with networking and, well, joy.

Beverly and I attended the opening at The Atrium Artspace, and went to see Alex Montilla’s Friday the 69th at the Parkway. He had Rob Zoppo and Chris Ranier with him (both from Baltimore). He made it with an iPhone and $15k, and it was great. It was funny and throughly enjoyable. I talked with all three over the weekend – really nice guys.

The Filmmakers Playground’s Baltimore Film Summit featured a lot of networking, roundtable discussions about the indie film industry, and a speed dating event with 1:1 Q&A with producers, screenwriters and other film professionals.

We also got to see Diner on the big screen – I can’t remember the last time I watched this (I remember the box of popcorn on the lap scene, however).

My favorite block after The Best of Sweaty Eyeballs was Brian Ratigan’s Darkroom screening and salon. Brain works in service of small films most folks will never see, and the Darkroom is a surprise every time – the films are not announced ahead of time.
