Found & Chosen

Solo Exhibition at Hamilton Gallery, Baltimore, MD
January/February 2023

In the early days of the Pandemic, I took many walks through my neighborhood in an ongoing effort to cope with the free floating anxiety we all felt. This turned into a practice of mindfulness. I became more observant and present, and this exhibit showcases materials gathered during this time.

This show, entitled Found and Chosen was made possible with a grant from the Maryland Start Arts Council. It contains:

  • Work made with objects, sounds and video accumulated in my neighborhood
  • Items discarded from an academic library
  • Several animated film
  • Free compact discs and cassettes

Small Stories and Other Stories

Solo Exhibition at Hamilton Gallery, Baltimore, MD
October 2019

Small Stories and Other Stories collected many small narratives, including the Widowed Tailor, the Arister gift diorama, the Four Horsemen family portrait, a dark and stormy night, and dozens of tin dioramas.

As with most of my shows, I made a zine for visitors to take home. It tells the story of the widowed tailor.

Where Two Worlds Touch

The Greenbelt Community Center Art Gallery
Greenbelt, MD
August-October 2018

I had a chance to do some space specific installation work at the Greenbelt Community Art Center. I presented my “land of the dead” theme, which included large Tyvek drawings and dioramas, cut paper shadow boxes, and about 40 smaller dioramas.

I made zine to accompany this show. There was a map of the land of the dead in the show, and the map itself noted many of the objects on display. The zine helped kids and other visitors connect the dots between the many pieces, and hinted at the relationship each item had to the entire show.

The Great Mystery Show

The American Visionary Art Museum
Baltimore, MD
2017-2018

Being included in this show was one of the great honors of this life. The work I contributed addressed some of my ideas about metaphysics.

I made friends with many wonderful people, including Ingo Swann’s family. My display was around the corner from Edward Gorey’s Gashley Crumb Tinies. I gave an artist talk in the museum about about my work, and Edward Gorey’s life.

The Art of Storytelling: Lies, Enchantment, Humor & Truth

The American Visionary Art Museum
Baltimore, MD
2012-2013

This show was a dream come true for me. I had three dioramas and some personal effects in this exhibit.

Memento Mori

School 33 Arts Center
Baltimore, MD
September 2012

My first solo show was in the project room at School33, in August of 2012. The Orioles had a game on the opening night, and even while parking was scarce, there was a huge turnout. It was a thrill to have a show there.

I made a 32 page zine telling the story of each piece, and I gave away dozens of cheap reading glasses and magnifiers for people to better view the work better.

Giant Circus Peanut

Artscape
Baltimore, MD
August, 2010

I made a giant circus peanut for Artscape. It stood over 12′ tall on its pedestal, and was on display in the medium on Mt. Royal avenue from August until late October. There was also a companion website that accompanied this sculpture. Visitors could answer a simple question: Do you like circus peanuts?
